Re: Boomerang
Man I wish people wouldn't take things so seriously. I mean it really was funny, right? The guy looked completely normal & healthy when suddenly out of nowhere he speaks and sounds like a muppet. I can't help feeling that it would be best if they could all laugh at the whole situation. The sweet talk thing was frustrating for the man, but also fucking hilarious! Don't you think some girls could get used to that?

Re: Boomerang
my great-grandma on my dad's side suffered from Alzheimer's the last six or so years of her life, and the family did deal with it through laughter - I remember a birthday party we had for her, where every couple minutes she would look around and ask "..well, whose birthday is this again?" and the adults would say "its yours, Florence!" and have a laugh and try to carry on.
I guess I doubt there's any better option than making jokes out of tragedies, but it really bothered me nevertheless.

Re: Boomerang
I actually feel bad now about laughing at that man's tragedy. Hilarity was my initial reaction the the show -- but i realize the damaged voice is a deep dire sadness he has to deal with every single day, with every single person he talks to, instead of just laughing about it for a few minutes, pressing stop on youtube, and going on to live a life full of normal vocal function

Re: Boomerang
I was just in a class tonight where we all had to go around and do that introductory thing. There was one young guy who had a really hushed, high pitched voice. He had to say his name like three times before the teacher understood him. And he just said really matter-of-factly "I have a really weird voice," and then went on with it. I liked how he talked about it like it was just a bad haircut that he got or something.

Re: Boomerang
This is the first thing in a long time that had me sitting at my computer laughing out loud. This is like being in class with kids who couldn't read well yet. I think I was forced to leave classrooms on several occasions just for laughing.

Re: Boomerang
There was a class in highschool called "aerospace technology," and Mike was in front of class giving a presentation about hobby rockets or something. I couldn't stop laughing at his voice, man, I sware, I don't remember what the Hell it was but I was choking and snorting and trying to fucking hard to hold it all in. But sometimes there's just no way

Re: Boomerang
Why would you feel bad laughing at this? You guys realize this is a sketch, right?
This is amazing!
Reminds me of Andy Kaufman's extremely dry humor.

Andy Kaufman is so awesome. His humor seriously borders on sociopathic. He is kind of disturbing, but incredibly interesting.

Definitely one of my favorite comedians, alongside Chaplin.

Re: Boomerang
i can't believe how he can bring himself to be so sadistic. he is an amazing performance artist. i can't imagine what it would've been like to be around him in "real" life. it seems like when you take humor into the kind of territory that he did his personality could just kind of dissolve, b/c after a certain point it would be hard to tell what is real and what's a joke when you're never earnest. i think a lot of comedians can probably lose themselves in their "character", i wonder if he did or if he was able to keep his real life separate.

Re: Boomerang
Have you seen Man on the Moon? That film details his personal and professional life pretty well.
He was never able to convince everybody that he actually had cancer. His family, friends didn't even believe him for a while.
